Origine géographique : espèce originaire du Sud-ouest de l'Europe (Sud France y compris Corse, Italie y compris Sardaigne et Sicile, Portugal et Espagne méditerranéenne y compris les îles Baléares) puis à Malte et en Afrique du Nord (Maroc, Algérie, Tunisie). C'est une espèce principalement de plaines côtières qui atteint 900 m d'altitude en Corse et 2000 m au Maroc.
